After this date, poker at Bovada will no longer be available. You'll still have access to Bovada's sportsbook, casino and racebook products.
Ignition Casino uses the same platform as Bovada, so the features you enjoy such as anonymous tables, Zone poker, mobile poker and guaranteed tournaments, like the weekly $100K, will be there waiting for you. Both sites will also operate simultaneously with shared player pools until the transition is complete. The sale of Bovada Poker to Ignition is the only part of Bovada's US-facing business that will be moving over to the new online locale. Bovada's existing sports-betting and casino-games operations will continue uninterrupted. Ignition Casino already exists as a skin on the Bodog operating platform, using the same software as Bodog and Bovada. Existing players have already reported successfully completing the move, which is expected to be nearly seamless in a transitional sense.
The deadline for the move is September 30th, 2016, after which all remaining Bovada Poker accounts are expected to be deactivated. Currently, Bovada allows for easy transfer of funds between a player's account and the available balances for poker, sports, or casino-games wagering, but once poker is removed from the Bovada equation, US-based customers desiring to participate in multiple forms of gambling, including poker at the new Ignition Casino site, will need to maintain multiple bankrolls.
The Migration FAQ page at Bovada offers additional details on the move, including bonuses, freerolls and other inducements to get existing players to move their balances over to Ignition as soon as possible. Bovada and Ignition will pool their US-based players until the September 30th deadline, at which time all active players will have been presumed to have moved over to Ignition.
Ignition will continue to offer poker services to 45 of the 50 US states. According to the migration FAQ, 'Any player account residing in the states of New Jersey, New York, Delaware, Maryland and Las Vegas [sic] will not be permitted to transfer their account as per Ignition Casino terms of service.'
The mention of 'Las Vegas' should be Nevada, which actually represents a bit of a change from the Bovada era: Previously, Bovada had terminated new sign-ups from that state, which is one of three — along with New Jersey and Delaware — where online-poker is available on state-regulated sites. However, Bovada had allowed pre-existing Nevada accounts and residents to continue playing, though that appears to be shutting off under the new Ignition Casino regime.
The new standards at Ignition also emphasize a refocusing on casual, lower-balance players, with initial plans allowing for players to receive one free withdrawal every four months (up to a $3,000) maximum, with sizable withdrawal fees on most transfer channels being applied to multiple withdrawals.
Combined with the move of Bovada's poker operations to the Ignition skin, which appears to most onlookers to be a separately-owned adjunct of Bodog's far-reaching operations, the entire effect appears to be to segregate the existing poker populace from Bovada's far more lucrative sports-betting and casino operations. There have been some concerns, expressed both within and outside Bodog/Bovada, that a too-large percentage of the site's well-heeled online sports bettors lost significant funds to poker-only players at Bovada's online tables. Moving those poker offerings over to Ignition creates a wall between the poker and the other offerings, thus increasing the likelihood that fewer of Bovada's sports bettors will find teir way over to (and fund, a separate process) the poker play.
